Back then the record caused a barrage of outrage and controversy as the single was unleashed days before the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. Seen as a direct attack on the Monarchy and country by the straight laced British public of the 1970s, few were keen on these outspoken, teenage punks accusing England as being a “fascist regime”with “no future”.

God Save the Queen never did get to the top spot upon its original release, but peaked at number two, behind Rod Stewart’s “The First Cut is the Deepest”. However the bands legendary album “Never mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols”, reached number one in the album charts sparking accusations that the then elite singles chart had been fixed, and the Sex Pistols were kept off the top spot by the BBC, who had banned the single from being broadcast.

So, on the dawn of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this June, “GSTQ” is being re-released as what can only be described as a brilliant publicity stunt. As the media circus gains momentum, people have united and put together a mighty Facebook campaign to encourage and remind fans to purchase the single during Jubilee week to get the track to the top spot.

Remarkably, not everyone is so excited about the prospect of the anti-establishment anthem being at the top of the charts this summer. John Lydon has hit back and publicly renounced the campaign:

“It is certainly not my personal plan or aim. I am proud of what the Sex Pistols achieved and always will be but this campaign totally undermines what the Sex Pistols stood for. This is not my campaign.”

A bit of a party pooper Mr. Rotten?? Everyone’s got to earn their living but these days, who can be sure what the iconic punk band stood for – perhaps money spinning reality TV shows in the jungle? or cliche television adverts for British butter?

Regardless of Johnny Rotten’s refusal to join the fun, I don’t think we’re alone in thinking that getting this seminal piece of our musical heritage to the top of the pop charts 35 years on would be a bloody great thing. What better way to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and Great Britain itself than by celebrating one of this countries greatest exports – PUNK … perhaps exposing new generations to a great British legacy that still influences art, fashion and music to this day.

So far the Facebook page has had nearly 10,000 likes since the beginning of March so get sharing and spread the word! And don’t forget to buy the Sex Pistol’s single God Save The Queen on the 27th of May for it to be in with a chance of making history. After all…If nothing else it would serve as a reminder that the British public still has a pulse; that not all of us have been brain washed by manufactured teenage boy bands, talent shows, street dance and the general misery of mainstream popular culture. And surely that, if nothing else, is EXACTLY what the Sex Pistols stood for…

Kathy: The mastermind behind the Mooz...

Whats the story behind MooMoonz?
Since a very young age, I always loved all things different, and loved making and creating new things, but these past few years, the hobby got out of hand, too much making, too much ideas, it was taking over the house, and we were running out of space. So I had to make a decision… it was between getting rid of some of my children or starting to sell the stuff ….and after long debating with the pros and cons, decision number 2 was made, and MooMoonZ was born.
So then came the looking for a cool name part, and it just wasn’t happening… My brother and I call each other “moumoune” which doesn’t mean anything at all in French, but I thought that it sounded great, leave or take a couple of letters to make it sound more international, and it became “ MooMoonZ”.

Some of the pieces are hand made, can you explain a little about that?
All of the hair clips and handmade, they’re my very favourite things to make, as well as being the very first items ever made for MooMoonZ. Now, the bow have extended to be used for bow rings, necklaces and brooches, as well as the original hair clips.
There is also, a ever growing collection of other jewellery, like necklaces, earrings and bracelets, being designed in themes and then put together for a final item that can be ideal for many different scenes.

What are the main inspirations for your designs?
Many things inspire MooMoonZ, but mainly, it’s all about being alternative! Tattoos and indie music! They are the big inspirations behind MooMoonZ….

What kind of girl wears MooMoonz?
She’s quirky, daring and proud to be different. She’s the ultimate nonconformist.

What’s next for MMZ?
Where do I start ? The handbags collection will be launched very soon, as well as our clothing range for both gals and dudes… It’s gonna be bold, that’s all I can say!

With only eight weeks to go until Download Festival 2012 opens its gates, organisers have confirmed another 19 acts who’ll appear across the weekend of 8,9,10 June at Donington Park.
